Frequently Asked Questions Does this SX4 model have a smoothbore or rifled barrel? This Big Game Rifled configuration has a 610 mm rifled barrel. This differs from the standard SX4 Composite with interchangeable chokes and a smoothbore barrel. What ammunition is the 12-gauge rifled barrel intended for? The barrel is primarily intended for use with sabot-type slug ammunition as recommended by the manufacturer. Suitable ammunition must be selected according to the firearm’s markings, user manual, and hunting regulations. Can shorter cartridges be used in a 12/89 firearm? The SX4 with a 12/89 chamber is, according to the manufacturer’s instructions, intended for use with suitable 12/70, 12/76, and 12/89 cartridges. Always check the exact compatibility of the ammunition from the firearm's markings and user manual. Can this firearm be fitted with interchangeable chokes? The rifled Big Game Rifled barrel is not constructed the same way as a standard Invector Plus choked smoothbore barrel. Always check the specific barrel markings and manufacturer’s instructions before using any muzzle device. Does the firearm have an optics rail? The technical data from Jahipaun does not list an optics rail as part of the set. If you wish to use an optical or red dot sight, check with the seller for compatibility with the specific receiver and mounting system before purchase. What are the requirements for purchasing this firearm? This is a restricted civilian firearm. A valid acquisition or firearm license and digital identity verification are required for purchase and transfer. When is the Winchester SX4 Big Game Rifled the right choice? This model is the right choice for a hunter looking for a semi-automatic shotgun specifically designed for use with 12-gauge slugs. The rifled barrel and adjustable sights clearly differentiate its intended use from a standard shotgun. For bird hunting, clay target shooting, or versatile hunting with shot loads, the smoothbore Back-Bored barrel with interchangeable Invector Plus chokes on the SX4 Composite is a better fit. If you require the precision and caliber selection of a rifle, consider a bolt-action rifle. Recommendation The Big Game Rifled is a specialized firearm, and extra attention must be paid to ammunition selection compared to a standard smoothbore shotgun. Only use slug ammunition that matches the firearm’s markings and manufacturer’s instructions. Different sabot loads can produce very different points of impact, so always test your chosen cartridge at an approved shooting range before hunting. The adjustable rear sight and fiber optic front sight allow for use without optics, but the point of impact must be confirmed at actual hunting distances. After shooting, clean the rifled barrel according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and carefully remove any lead and powder residue. If you wish to use a red dot or optical sight, have the compatibility of the mount checked by the seller or a qualified gunsmith before installation.
